"OF THE GAUX"
De La Gaux is a one woman operation based in North Long Beach, California. Margaux Herron-Felten designs and makes everything by hand in her garage.
The brand name pays homage to Margaux’s heritage, Mexican-American and Native American. She is always looking to her surroundings and her culture for innovative ways to re-work her designs in a fashionable yet functional way. She is inspired by finding beauty in things that are not always considered obvious or traditional.
Margaux started De La Gaux after working for years as a designer in the Apparel Industry. She saw the way she was directly affecting the demise of the planet and how unfairly garment workers are treated and paid. She wanted to use her talents to help climate change and people less fortunate.
Her advocacy for sustainability and the equal income in the Fashion Industry led her to making face masks at the time of Covid-19 in March 2020. She made thousands of masks for people all over the country, using materials she saved from previous employers. Beautiful materials that would have just gone into landfills.
All De La Gaux products and materials used to make the collections are either Upcycled or Deadstock.
WHAT IS UPCYCLING?
Upcycling, also known as creative refuse, is the process of the transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into a new materials or products. A new future can be given to such things!
WHAT IS DEADSTOCK?
In the terms in which we use the term “Deadstock” here at De La Gaux, is in regards to fabric or materials that was manufactured, but never used by the company it was originally made for. Usally older or out of date or overstock.
